- Multiple Count: The waffle stitch requires a starting chain in multiples of 3 plus 4 (or multiple of 3 plus 2 if counting from 3rd ch from hook).
- 2-Row Repeat: After establishing the foundation, the pattern is an easy 2-row repeat alternating front post stitches.
- Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC): Insert hook from front to back to front around the vertical post of the stitch below, yarn over, pull up loop, complete dc.

Step-by-Step Instructions

*Work 1 FPDC around the next stitch, then 2 dc in the tops of the next 2 stitches; repeat from * across until 2 stitches remain.
Work 1 FPDC around the second-to-last stitch, and 1 regular dc into the top of the turning chain. Ch 2, turn.
Row 3 (Completing the Grid Grid & Repeat)
Row 3: Ch-2 counts as 1st stitch. Work 1 regular dc into the top of the 2nd stitch (which was an FPDC in Row 2).
*Work 1 FPDC around each of the next 2 stitches (the recessed dc from previous row), then 1 regular dc in next stitch; repeat from * across.
Place the final dc into the top of the turning chain. Ch 2, turn.
Rows 4+: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 alternately until your fabric reaches the desired length. Fasten off and weave in ends.
